Medaka (Oryzias latipes), also called Japanese ricefish, are small, hardy fish bred into hundreds of colors and patterns, from sparkling lame strains to deep black Orochi. They do well in tanks, patio bowls, and ponds, and most do not need a heater. Every fish is a breeding-size adult, about 1 to 1.2 inches, and is health checked before it ships.

Why Keep Medaka?

Hardy: Handle a wide temperature range, about 64 to 82°F.
Easy to breed: Females lay eggs almost daily in warm months.
Great from above: Many strains are bred to be viewed from the top in bowls and tubs.
Peaceful: Good with shrimp, snails, and other small, calm fish.
