Male Betta Care Tips
- Use a heated tank of 5 gallons or more with a gentle filter.
- Keep the water at 78 to 82ยฐF with pH 6.5 to 7.5.
- Do regular partial water changes and keep the water stable.
- Feed a quality betta pellet once or twice a day in small amounts. Add frozen foods like bloodworms or brine shrimp for variety.
- Use smooth decor and live or silk plants to protect the fins.

With our "What You See is What You Get" collection, you can view the exact fish you'll be receiving. Each fish is photographed individually, so you know exactly what you're purchasing before it arrives at your door.
Do you offer a live arrival guarantee?
Yes! We offer a 100% live arrival guarantee. Our fish are shipped directly from our collections with care, and we stand behind their quality. If your fish arrive in poor condition, please contact us within 24 hours with a photo, and weโll provide a replacement or refund, as per our terms and conditions.
What is the Direct from Farm collection?
The Direct from Farm collection is our preorder system where you can select fish directly from our farm in Thailand. Because we carefully source each fish, this process takes a little longerโapproximately 2 weeks for the fish to arrive from Thailand and another week for quarantine before being shipped to you. This ensures that your fish are healthy and acclimated before they reach your aquarium.
How do I care for my new fish once they arrive?
When your fish arrive, itโs important to acclimate them gradually to your tankโs water temperature. Ensure your aquarium is fully cycled and that water parameters (temperature, pH, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels) are stable. Cycle first. Our cycling guide uses 2 ppm ammonia. The tank is ready when 2 ppm drops to 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite within 24 hours, usually after 4 to 6 weeks.
Feeding schedule
Shop fish food โBettas have small stomachs. Overfeeding is the most common mistake.
Your care routine
Daily2โ4 small pellets, once or twice. Remove anything left after a couple of minutes.
WeeklyFrozen treats a few times. Bloodworms or brine shrimp, and skip feeding one day a week.
As neededRinse the filter in old tank water. Never rinse sponges or media in tap water. It kills the good bacteria.
First meals
Expect your betta to be shy for a day or two after shipping. Start with a few pellets once it is swimming around.
When your box arrives
Read our Live Arrival Guarantee โHave your tank cycled and running before the box shows up. This is the method from our acclimation guide.
- 01Check the bags firstLook at each bag before you open anything. If a fish has passed, take a clear photo and video of it in the sealed, unopened bag.
- 02Report within 6 hoursEmail info@garageaquatics.com within 6 hours of the delivery time in tracking. Use the subject "DOA Order #" plus your order number.
- 03Float the bagTurn off the tank light. Float the sealed bag for 15 to 25 minutes until the bag and tank are within 3ยฐF.
- 04Add tank water slowlyOpen the bag and add about a cup of tank water every 5 minutes until the bag is nearly full.
- 05Net them inNet the fish into your tank and throw out the bag water. Keep the lights off for 12 to 24 hours.
Hiding is normal. Fish often hide, clamp fins, lose some color or skip food for the first 1 to 3 days. If something seems off, email us within 3 days with a video, your tank size and temperature, and ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH readings.
